Alton is a city in Sioux County, Iowa, United States, along the Floyd River. The population was 1,248 at the 2020 census. Alton was originally called East Orange, and under the latter name was laid out in 1875 when the railroad was extended to that point. East Orange was renamed Alton in 1882. Alton was incorporated as a city in 1883.
