Toxic foam was also seen floating in the Yamuna River at Kalindi Kunj as pollution levels continued to rise. A similar foam was spotted in the river in the past few days, highlighting rising pollution.

A thick layer of fog was seen in Anand Vihar, Kalkaji, Nehru Place, and Akshardham Temple localities among other places in the national capital, as the city’s air quality dropped to 385 at 8 am today.

Anand Vihar continues to be the most polluted area in Delhi, recording an alarming AQI of 424 on Sunday morning. The figure falls in the "severe" category of air quality. Other highly polluted areas include Jahangirpuri (352 AQI) and Wazirpur (345 AQI). Particulate matter (PM)10 and PM2.5 were the major pollutants across these hotspots.

As many as 3,376 fire and stubble burning incidents were reported between 15 September and 19 October in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. This compares with 3,134 incidents reported during the same period last year.

As cold weather settles in, pollution in all its forms is tightening its grip on Delhi, with the air quality in the city remaining in the "poor" category, though stubble burning has declined this year compared to previous years,

Like in the past, Anand Vihar emerged as the most polluted neighbourhood in the NCR with its AQI shooting above 400 placing it in the ‘severe’ category. The air quality in Anand Vihar remained hazardous throughout the day,
