California voters will be asked this November to vote on Proposition 36, a measure that would roll back a resolution passed by voters in 2014 to reclassify some "non-violent" felonies as misdemeanors.

Following a county staff report on the measure, which could reverse another initiative passed a decade ago, Board Chairwoman Nora Vargas voted no, along with fellow supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer and Monica Montgomery Steppe.

Proposition 36 asks California voters to broadly increase the penalties for fentanyl dealers and theft crimes by reclassifying some that are currently misdemeanors as felonies. The measure attempts to undo parts of Proposition 47,
