A Prada coat and Yohji Yamamoto jacket worn by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who died alongside John F. Kennedy Jr. in a 1999 plane crash, will be sold.

Terenzio, who describes Bessette-Kennedy as her “fashion fairy godmother,” fondly recalls being gifted the faux fur piece in her book, “Fairy Tale Interrupted: A Memoir of Life, Love and Loss.”

Two coats and a jacket from the late style icon are valued at over $50,000 in an upcoming Sotheby’s sale.

At Sotheby's second annual Fashion Icons sale, three of Bessette-Kennedy's garments will be up for grabs. According to the auction house, the items are appearing on the market for the first time and were originally gifted to Bessette-Kennedy's close friend and John F. Kennedy Jr.'s assistant RoseMarie Terenzio.

There is also a Prada wool coat up for sale, which Bessette-Kenedy donned throughout the later half of the ’90s, including while en route to Bill Clinton’s inauguration on January 19, 1997. It is assumed to be from Prada’s autumn/winter 1996/1997 collection, and is estimated to sell for $15,000-$20,000.

According to Terenzio, Bessette-Kennedy gifted her the all-over leopard print coat as a last-minute outfit fix before Terenzio was heading out for a date. The coat is being offered with a low estimate of US$20,000.
