The Houston Astros are in the process of hiring Tony Perezchica, the longtime third-base coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks, for the same role, a person with knowledge of the decision confirmed. The move was not final as of Tuesday morning.

Perezchica was the Diamondbacks' third-base coach for eight seasons under manager Torey Lovullo, while also serving as the club's infield instructor. Before joining the coaching staff, he served served in Arizona's organization for 14 seasons in various roles.

Perezchica, 58, would replace Gary Pettis, who did not have his contract renewed after 10 years on Houston's staff.
