Western Kentucky entered the season with just one losing year in Conference USA play over its previous 10 seasons. The Hilltoppers won their first conference game of the season decisively with a 49-21 win over Middle Tennessee on Sept.

The Miners don't outwardly appear to be taking much momentum into the game, though coach Scotty Walden thinks his team has made steady progress in the 0-5 start. Any chance UTEP will have in a game where the Miners are 18 1/2-point underdogs will involve eliminating the penalties and turnovers that plagued them in the loss to Sam Houston State.
